Indonesian Possible So ASEAN Official Languages

Chairman of the House of Representatives Marzuki Alie said, the Assembly of ASEAN Inter (/ AIPA) is likely to include provisions in the Statutes of AIPA which states that the Indonesian language asthe official language of ASEAN. "That we gave at the forum and all of them immediately accepted and will be included in the statute AIPA," Marzuki said after attending a meeting between thedelegation and the leaders of AIPA member countries of ASEANin Jakarta Convention Center.

In previous AIPA meeting, added Marzuki, most delegates AIPAaccept Indonesia's proposal to include the Indonesian language asthe official or working language in the ASEAN region. 

According tohim, the Indonesian delegation to understand that not onlyunderstood and used in Indonesia, but also used in a number of ASEAN member countries. "Once we submit the direct canunderstand each other and understand," he said.

However, according to Marzuki, the inclusion of Indonesian at theStatutes of AIPA still have to go through several stages, one of which is the process of amendment of the statute. "The change instatute will be discussed in September later this year inCambodia," he said.

Marzuki is Indonesian parliamentary delegation which submittedthe proposal inclusion of Indonesian language as the official language of ASEAN. The proposal was submitted in the firstplenary session of the General Assembly 31st AIPA in Hanoi,Vietnam, 21 September 2010.

Marzuki's proposal is actually been raised since the beginning ofthe arrival of the House delegation to Hanoi, Vietnam, at a meeting of ASEAN parliament last year. Previously, the AIPA ExecutiveCommittee meeting, Indonesia also has proposed amendments tothe statutes of Indonesian AIPA for entry in the working language ofAIPA, in addition to English.
