The rupiah could continue to strengthen until it reaches Rp 8,000 per U.S. dollar. This was possible due to the weakening U.S. dollar does not only occur between the rupiah and U.S. dollar, but also all the world's currencies against the U.S. dollar.

Anggito said the economic recovery in the United States will create demand for products in the country of the world is increasingly high. This led to the weakening U.S. dollar. With these trends, the rupiah could continue to strengthen to Rp 8,000 per U.S. dollar," he said.


Anggito said the central bank is still being conservative by maintaining the strengthening of the rupiah at current levels, namely at the level of Rp 8551 per U.S. dollar. In fact, the sharp appreciation in the rupiah is already starting detected in 2010 so that the assumption of exchange rates in Budget 2011 was to set the level of Rp 8,500 to Rp 8,700 per U.S. dollar.
"Now, Indonesia is the most conservative because all currencies strengthen against the U.S. dollar. In fact, BI already know, to hold each of 100 billion U.S. dollars was the cost. As a result, are now allowed to continue to strengthen the rupiah," he said.

The rupiah continued to show strong tendency to reach the position of USD 8547.5 per U.S. dollar on May 2, 2011. That is much stronger than the position a year ago is on the level of Rp 9009 per U.S. dollar on May 3, 2010. That means strengthening the rupiah has been happening around 5.4 percent. The development of the exchange rate was already much stronger than the exchange rate assumptions set out in Budget 2011, ie USD 9250 per U.S. dollar, or 8.2 percent stronger.
Acting Head of fiscal policy (BKF) Bambang PS Brojonegoro mentioned, the strengthening of the rupiah against the U.S. dollar to provide benefits for the state budget.
